![]() ![]() ![]() OTT offers 3 bands of upward compression, whereas MV2 offers 1 full-range band. The ratios are high, the attack and release are pretty fast, and it slams all three bands into a narrow dynamic range at its default 100 option. All the compressors are doing the same amount of gain reduction as well. Some compressors have a knee control, and I have set them all to 0.5. Highly recommend trying it, but using it gently and rarely, but it does what it does extremely well. If you’re looking to compress your signal from the noise floor up, there aren’t many upward compressors, even when it comes to paid plugins - but both OTT by Ofer records and MV2 by Waves are good options. Its a multiband compressor with both upward and downward compression that act as one process on each band. Each compressor is set to the same settings: 20 milliseconds for attack, 51 milliseconds for release, and 8 to 1 ratiothat’s just how I usually set my compressors for vocals. Levels off the boominess and brings out the grit (I put OTT before the amp sim) without squashing the transients. Multiband compression was already in my sights but I never got the results I really wanted, and I really just didn’t like the sound of squishing the transients with normal compression. Obviously you can’t just fix this with EQ because it would make it too not boomy on the other strings. I had a problem where my E string was just too boomy compared to other strings, and the mid range grittiness wasn’t cutting through very well. As I said in a status, I did this for my bass guitar in front of my amp sim, and applied just a (relatively, like below 20%) gentle amount of upward compression, and along with the band controls it made my bass guitar sound amazing. What I like most about this, is that I can turn downward compression completely off and have a nice upward compressor for the rare occasions where I might feel like that’s what I need. You also have level trim controls for the 3 bands, and you can ctrl click on a band to disable the compression on it. Tempus imperium ad oppugnationem scandere / tempora omnium vincula dimittis. Sixth Sample releases Cramit, a freeware OTT (over the top) multiband compressor effect in VST3 and AU plugin formats for compatible DAW software on Windows and macOS. The compression still very strong, but now you have separate knobs for upward and downward, so you can turn one off completely if you want. Download OTT Multiband Compressor 'OTT recreatio popularis multibandi supra infestantis / compressoris deorsum, occasus a multis dubstep et electro effectoribus adhibitis. It was a combination upward and downward compressor with only a few controls that basically amounted to “how much do you want to squash the hell out of your track?” Ok so this little plugin until recently had imo very limited use, though what it was good for it was REALLY good for. Figured we may as well have a topic for this. ![]()
